Celebrating Easter in the office and it's fun!

It is Easter season and I am in the office. Most people are away from work enjoying the festive mood. But for some of us, as you read this article lazing around at the beach, I am actually typing a report.

I was in the office yesterday — Good Friday and I will be here on Easter Monday. That is my kind of job. My nature of work does not recognise the traditional holidays — so I work from Easter to Labour Day, Mashujaa Day and even Christmas, unless it falls on my off days.

Holidays are not in our vocabulary. People who are on-call like doctors and those who work in the hotel industry can relate with my kind of work.

With a crazy schedule like mine, it means I have no social life. I am rarely in family gatherings and my in-laws have never understood this.

“You are here alone with Tasha. Is your wife working again?” my hubby has become accustomed to the sneering questions from his sisters.

My in-laws just can’t seem to accept that someone can work over Easter and Christmas; I have given up on explaining to them.

People should know that not all jobs have the same template — 8-5 and Monday to Saturday. Some of us are in some odd careers, we can work even up to Sunday and take off on weekdays. I gave up on explaining my schedule to them. I mean as long as my hubby is okay with it and supports me, the rest of the clan can take a marathon. So as you read this piece probably sipping some fine Easter wine and sampling sumptuous delicacies at the beach, enjoy because some of us are holed up in the office with unrealistic deadlines.

But I am not complaining.

The beauty of it all is that I take my holidays in low season when rates of hotels in Mombasa and Naivasha are irresistibly low.
