My word: Your daily two-hour date

Lady Speak
You can read a book, work on your fitness or add a skill to your CV (Image: Shutterstock)

I recently re-read Shonda Rhimes’ the Year of Yes, and it reminded me of something I hadn’t practiced in a while.

That as hard as you work for everyone else, you need to do the same for yourself. I am not talking about self-care or some fun time. No. I am talking about some self-development time.

Time you set aside for your personal growth and development. Do you set any time aside to nurture your dreams?

To do truly important things for yourself, and work on that passion project that sets your soul on fire?

The book suggests that every day after work, to set aside two hours for yourself sounds like a lot but it really isn’t.

These two hours should be used to make you a better person. It could be time to up your fitness or to add a skill to your CV.

It could be taking the time to polish your CV, searching for new jobs or reading a book that teaches you something.

Whatever you do, make it about making yourself a better person, whether that is physically finance-wise or getting ahead in your career.

If evenings are tough for you to squeeze in this time, how about waking up one hour or two earlier? Two hours out of 24 hours is just 8.3 per cent of your day.

It goes a long way. And since we make time for what truly matters, you are totally worth the sacrifice.
