National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has condemned the violence that occurred in Laare, Meru County ahead of the alliance’s planned rally on Tuesday.

Raila accused the Jubilee leadership and the police of spearheading the chaos to disrupt the much-anticipated rally.

The Opposition chief stressed that the Government must stop frustrating NASA supporters ahead of the repeat presidential poll on October 26 and which he has pulled out from.

“The government must stop this alliance between thugs and security officers and the unconstitutional and reckless deployment of troops to annihilate NASA supporters,” he said.

The former Prime Minister had, also in a press statement, indicated that the anti-IEBC protests had been suspended until further notice.

He also announced that the coalition will, on Friday, hold rallies in honour of the victims that have lost their lives in the demos.

“In honour of the innocent victims of the State, our protests will stay suspended. On Friday, we will mark the memory of these victims as heroes of the struggle for electoral justice at a venue to be disclosed later. On that day, we shall communicate our next course of action,” Raila pointed out.

Friday happens to be Mashujaa Day, a public holiday.

The alliance holds a rally at Kamkunji, Nairobi, on Wednesday October 17 and another one in Turkana on Thursday.
