Three police officers were arrested Wednesday morning while transporting a consignment of bhang and other contraband goods in a police vehicle at Kanyonyoo area along the Thika – Garissa highway.

The three male police officers were nabbed by a multi-agency security team that had mounted a roadblock in that section of the road.

Two of the officers were from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) department in Wajir County while one was from the regular police.

The three were traveling in a pick-up truck belonging to the DCI office in Wajir County.

Upon search of their vehicle, they were found with 245kgs of bhang, 150kgs of contraband sugar, another 325kgs of government rice and several liters of cooking oil.
Kitui Rural Sub County Police Commander Charles Chacha confirmed the arrest, saying that besides the three police officers; the other two persons also traveling in the same car were being held.

“We have three police officers and two other people in custody and investigations have commenced,” Chacha said.

The five were initially detained at Kanyonyoo police post but were later in the day transferred to Kyusyani Police Station under the escort of Chacha and a top DCI officer in the area.
