Apologise for insulting remark, leaders tell governor

Governor Joseph Ndathi is at loggerheads with some leaders who claim he insulted a local women leader.

The leaders led by Deputy Governor Julius Njiiri and a group of MCAs have demanded an apology from Mr Ndathi for what they say were unkind remarks against politician Purity Ngirici.

They accused the governor of disrespecting women by publicly disparaging Ms Ngirici for using a helicopter for her meet-the-people tour.

Mr Njiiri, accompanied by MCAs Murimi Wairimu (Thiba), Jinaro Jamomo (Mutithi), James Kinyua (Wamumu), John Nyaga (Kanyekine) and George Kagori, gave Ndathi 48 hours to apologise to women or face massive protests over the alleged insult.

The deputy governor broke ranks with his boss, saying he was ready to chart a new political path.

Ngirici, who is eyeing the Women Representative seat, also urged the governor and local leaders to use civil language in their public engagements.

However, County Communication Director Joseph Murimi denied Ndathi had disparaged leaders, saying the governor was known for "his mature politics and never engages in personality politics".

"Let them produce any recording showing the governor making such utterances. These are just political games," said Mr Murimi.

Ngirici said threats and intimidation would not stop her bid for the seat.
