Youth urged to turn to agribusiness for self sustaining

Young people from Subukia sub-county have been urged to turn to agriculture as one of the avenues where they can sustain themselves rather than looking on getting employed in offices to earn a living.

 Speaking to the youth in Subukia on Friday, Subukia youth fund officer Peter Kimani Macharia called on the county government to increase support to agriculture sector as it creates opportunity for job employment for many young people.

 “The government has set aside funds such as youth enterprise funds among others that young people can borrow to kick start their farming businesses. There are numerous examples of people who have succeeded through farming. Jobs are unreliable but agribusiness is the way to go,” Kimani said.

 Patrick Macharia who is the chairman of Jomcabd youth group further said that young people need to diversify the projects they are engaging in as a way of boosting their income.

“Through agribusiness projects, young people can create job opportunities to many people for example casual laborers who will attend to crops. Such projects will give youths high returns that is far much better compared to being employed,” Macharia said.

 He added that it is through such ways that young people are able to bring the much needed positive change in the society and the nation at large.

 The youth group has over two acres where they have planted potatoes and is now venturing to French beans farming.
