Kenya: Government withdraws proposed Religious Societies Rules

President Uhuru Kenyatta

The Government of Kenya has withdrawn proposed Religious Societies Rules after President Uhuru Kenyatta met religious leaders at State House, Nairobi.

This was arrived at today after the President held fruitful engagements with a broad spectrum of religious leaders.

This will pave way for a process driven by the religious stakeholders with the participation of the Government and the General Public in structured consultation.

The outcome will be development of firm and fair regulations that uphold the sacrosanct principles of religious freedom that underpin our democratic ideals as guaranteed by our Constitution.

“The Government wishes to reassure all Kenyans that it remains steadfastly committed to do everything necessary to facilitate a free and open society conducive to a vibrant religious environment and remains committed to an open, transparent and accessible government where public participation and consideration of a broad range of views is paramount.”
