Pregnant wife on the run after stabbing husband to death in Mombasa

MOMBASA: Residents of Bamburi in Mombasa yesterday woke up to a sad drama after a woman stabbed her husband to death. Alloyse Matata, a bank employee in Mombasa, bled to death after he was stabbed with a kitchen knife for allegedly cheating on his wife.

Kisauni OCPD Fred Ngatia said police were pursuing the pregnant woman, who had escaped. "The man was stabbed by his wife and he bled to death," said Mr Ngatia.

According to a neighbour, the woman was enraged because her husband had failed to come home for three days. She said the couple fought often, and things got out of hand after the wife received a text message from a friend saying that her husband was entertaining another woman in a bar.

The woman confronted her husband at the bar, which is 200 meters away from their home, and a quarrel ensued. Both the took their fight to their house.

"She threw the key out of the window and a friend took it and when we opened the door, we found that she had already stabbed him," said neighbours.

Matata was rushed to Yeshua Medical Centre for treatment but died from bleeding.

Samuel Otieno, a boda boda operator, said he picked up the woman, who had blood on her feet and hands. "She was in a hurry and asked to be dropped at Kiembeni Estate," he said.

Benjamin Oyoga, a local leader, said the area has been experiencing a spate of domestic violence.
