KISUMU, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured the youth across the country who were recently engaged in National Youth Service (NYS) empowerment programmes that their savings are safe.
“Your money is safe,” the President told the youth engaged in the NYS programme but which has been temporarily suspended over some financial challenges. He said the programme will resume soon.
The President spoke at Kenyatta grounds in Kisumu city during a thanks giving service for the new ACK St. Stephens Cathedral which is under construction. The sermon was delivered by Bishop Joseph Muchai of Nakuru.
The President said he is totally committed to the success of the youth empowerment programme that provided many Kenyan youth with gainful employment.
The President challenged politicians to learn from the tolerance of the various religious denominations in the country which co-exist harmoniously and support one another despite their differences in faith.
“ACK invited other religious denominations to this thanks giving service and they came to offer financial and moral support,” he observed as he urged Kenyans in general to copy this example of tolerance and rise above partisan politics to build a united country.
“Adopt a culture of tolerance. We need one another. Let us collaborate closely to build Kenya”, the President told politicians.
President Kenyatta said leaders should learn to support one another on matters of national importance and not to scheme for their opponent’s downfall.
The Head of State noted the progress of the street lighting project being undertaken jointly by the national government in Kisumu city and promised to return for its commissioning when complete.
The President also said the National Government is working with partners to install cancer screening equipment in one hospital per county.
