The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has warned politicians against hate speech during rallies ahead of the general elections.
Tobiko warned he will prosecute any politician who incites the public.
"I would like to send a strong signal that the full force of the law will be applied against any groups or individuals who are bent on causing hatred and disharmony in the country," said Tobiko.
The DPP said the country has lately witnessed reckless and inflammatory utterances by politicians bordering on incitement and hate speech.
He said his office shall discharge its mandate to ensure that the next elections are free and fair by ensuring those who incite the public are dealt with swiftly and firmly in accordance with the law.
He spoke during the stakeholders validation workshop for the Office of the Director of Prosecution strategic plan for 2011-2015 on Friday night at KICC, Nairobi .
Police too have warned against hate speech and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission has been urged to take tougher action.
Tobiko said they want an Independent, professional, efficient and effective prosecution service that draws public confidence and meets best International standards.
