Lobby wants director dropped

A petition has been lodged seeking the removal of a director of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) over supposed conflict of interest.

Consumers’ lobby Cofek wants Macharia Irungu removed from the board of the industry regulator following his appointment as a director of Total Kenya.

Cofek Secretary General Stephen Mutoro has written to Energy CS Charles Keter citing that Dr Irungu cannot sit on the board.

EPRA is mandated to ensure compliance, licensing and dispute resolution in the petroleum industry. "Clearly, this is an unacceptable case of severe conflict of interest,” Mutoro wrote.
