Autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar bans raw cloves trade

Tanzania’s semi-autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar has banned selling of raw cloves ahead of the harvest season set to start next month.

Cloves are a major export crop in Zanzibar, which is one of the world’s major suppliers. Amina Salum Ali, Zanzibar’s trade, industry and marketing minister urged farmers to sell the crop to the Zanzibar State Trade Corporation.
