Kisia to leave office end month for Governor bid

By Peter Orengo

Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has promised to leave office by the end of this month and concentrate on his campaign for the position of Nairobi County governor.

Mr Kisia said he would do so not only to comply with elections rules, but also to give himself more time with the electorate before elections.

He said his experience as chairman of Nairobi Central Business District, CEO of Kenyatta International Conference Centre and now Town Clerk makes him the most suitable person to be governor of Nairobi.

"I was born, raised and attended school in this city. My interaction with residents makes me most qualified to continue serving them in another higher portfolio," he said.

Kisia at the same time condemned tribal groupings of Kamatusa and Gema, saying they have no space in present Kenya.

"Kenya has matured after passing the Constitution, so those trying to revive tribal groupings should know they are wasting their time," he said.

He asked Kenyans not to give proponents of such groupings their time

"The people of Nairobi don’t ascribe to tribes and I urge them to continue living the same way," Kisia said.

Kisia was speaking when he joined a congregation of Nairobi Pentecostal Assemblies of God faithful during the Easter festivities in Westlands
