What is ailing our universities?
The lecturers’ strike aside, several tertiary institutions have been closed indefinitely. Not long ago, shocking videos of University of Nairobi students being beaten and kicked by anti-riot police ignited social outrage as many questioned the crackdown. Various footage shared on social media showed people said to be students lying on the ground screaming for mercy as uniformed men rained brutality with large wooden truncheons and kicks.
