Children unleash skills in US KIDS tour as parents took the role of caddies

Children golfers caddied by their parents proved they are future stars when they unleashed their skills at the US Kids Local Tour Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Sunday.

This Invitational event caters to the promising young golf talent in Kenya for children aged 5 to 18 who featured in 9 and 18 holes to qualify for U.S. Kids Golf Priority Status.

Mombasa’s Fidel Wasike emerged the winner in the Boys 15 to 18 years category with 83 gross, Jabari Ongwae from Nairobi was the runners up with 109 gross while Mombasa’s Kyrell Koome’s 111 gross and Diani’s Alpha Wise’s 162 gross placed them third and fourth respectively.

The same age group for the girls was won by Tatiana Genevieve from Vipingo who carded 90 gross ahead of Mombasa’s Ida Rose who brought 100 gross to claim the runners up slot.

Vivian Odhiambo also from Mombasa returned 109 to claim the third slot and her colleague Nasihah Abdalla was fourth with 123 gross.

The Boys 13 to 14 years group title was scooped by Mombasa’s Aydan Jamal who had a score of 96 gross while colleagues Aryan Awe on 108 gross and Larsson Hawii with 115 gross were the runners up and third placed respectively. 

Mombasa’s Gunita Patel playing in the same age category for girls was however lucky having been alone to claim the winning prize after carding 142gross.                        

The Boys 12 year’s section was won by Mombasa’s Shay Chauhan on 96 gross and his colleague Randy Cheruiyot carded 134 gross to claim the runners up prize.

While in the Girls 11 to 12 year’s group, Nairobi’s Randy Turi took the title after carding 105 gross and her Colleague April Ochola was second with 150 gross.

Club Captain Dinesh Sasan thanked the organizers, Sponsors and the 68 Juniors from various parts of the Country who participated  in the tournament acknowledging that  the Youngsters displayed their talented skills in the course to prove that they are the future stars in the sport of golf.

Tournament Director Kailash Chauhan said the event jointly organized by U.S. Kids Golf and the Junior Golf Foundation Kenya (JGF) and supported by NCBA was very successful with most parents delighted to accompany their Kids carrying their Golf bags as Caddies.

“By earning points for Priority Status, participants can qualify to events such as the Regional Invitational and the U.S. Kids Golf major Championships including Regional Championship,

International, the World Teen Championships, “said Chauhan.

JGF Coast Representative Mary Mariga thanked the parents for bringing their children to the tournament and part of the caddies during the day’s event and pointed out the Foundation will continue to tap, nurture and grow talents among junior golfers across the region.

The Mombasa Local tour started In Kwale County at Diamond Leisure Golf Resort in August 20th, then moved to Vipingo Baobab Ridge on September 3rd.

Action now goes to  Diamond Leisure  course  again for two days on  October,21st ,and 22nd, before winding  at  Nyali Golf and Country Club  on October,29th.
