Glady Wanga husband: I present my wife to the people of Homa Bay County

“My wife, do not disappoint me.”

These were the words of George Wanga, the husband of Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga. George uttered the words when he led his family to present Gladys to the people of Homa Bay County over her aspiration to contest the county’s governor’s seat.

He said this in presence of the Luo Council of Elders in charge of Kochia ward during an endorsement ceremony held at Ligisa Secondary School. George said he had presented his wife to the people of Homa Bay with an appeal to Gladys not to let him down. He urged campaign smartly and ensure she becomes the second governor of Homa Bay County.

“I present my wife to the people of Homa Bay County unconditionally. But I am appealing to her not to let me down,” George said.

His words meant that Gladys had been released by her family to run for the seat. The green light gives Gladys an opportunity to interact with anybody concerning her bid. He said his wife’s aspiration for the seat was a blessing for Kochia clan in Rangwe Constituency where he hails from.

George’s comments mean that Gladys should be perceived as a resident of Homa Bay county rather than Kisumu. Gladys was born in Kano in Muhoroni Constituency, Kisumu County, before she got married to George.

“My wife’s aspiration in this race is a blessing to us as the people of Kochia. Let us support her because she can take this county to the next level of development,” George said.

He, however, warned that the race should not be perceived as a do-or-die contest.

“It is through the grace of God that one can become a governor. Let us pray that my wife wins the seat,” he said.

The Luo Council of Elders in Kochia ward also endorsed Gladys for the seat. The elders were led by their chairman Odul Kabaraka. The elders made George sit on a stool before he ushered in Gladys to the same stool. This is because the stool is meant for men and cannot be given to a lady directly.

They also presented a spear and a shield to George who stood behind her. After George demonstrated how to use the weapon, the elders put a traditional hat on Gladys’ head.

The elders eventually made Gladys put on a special hat locally known as ogisa, which is a symbol of power. She was presented with a cooking stick as well. Kabaraka said they decided to endorse Wanga because she had the required leadership credentials for the seat. Gladys said if elected, she would stock health facilities with drugs to cushion residents from buying drugs from private chemists.
