Police shoot dead man selling sanitizer at Rioma area Kisii

Police from Rioma in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii, have shot a man selling sanitizer in the area.

The man was accused of selling fake sanitizer moments before he was arrested.

It is not clear under what circumstances the deceased was  shot though residents said the officer allegedly involved in the shooting was seen in the company of a local businessman a few hours before the incident.

Area Chief Tom Monari said following the shooting, residents involved the police in running battles to protest against the shooting.

"Police have managed to carry away the body. There is tension at the Rioma market which is along the Kisii-Homabay border."

Kisii County Commander Jebel Munene has been leading the operation to calm the situation.
