Teeth may seem like unnecessary body parts, but they represent beauty. Having teeth is so important, such that the pain of a toothache can leave you helpless for days. Aside from healthy teeth practices like brushing and flossing, what you eat really matters.

Best foods

Cheese, milk, plain yogurt, and other dairy products are good for your teeth. Nowonder children are encouraged to drink milk. Cheese is a saliva maker. The calcium in milk and other dairy products, help put back minerals your teeth might have lost due to other foods. They also help rebuild tooth enamel which is the white part upper later of the teeth.

Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables like beans, lettuce and others are of great health benefit to your teeth. Foods with fiber help keep your teeth and gums clean since they don't get saliva flowing.. About 20 minutes after you eat something that has sugars or starches, your saliva begins to reduce the effects of the acids and enzymes attacking your teeth. What you should know is that the saliva contains traces of calcium and phosphate which restores minerals to areas of teeth that have lost them from the bacterial acids from the other foods.

Do you love teas? The green and black teas are a nice and relaxing beverage. They contain polyphenols that interact with plaque bacteria, killing them or holding them back. Consequently, the bacteria won't grow and or there'll be no acid that attacks teeth. The water you use to brew your tea matters a lot,as a cup of tea can also be a source of fluoride.

Foods with fluoride, especially fluoridated drinking water, or any product you make with fluoridated water, helps your teeth. This includes powdered juices, poultry products, seafood, and powdered cereals, also can give fluoride.

Sugarless chewing gum is not bad after all. It is another saliva maker that removes food particles from your mouth.

Worst foods

Carbonated soft drinks are all over stores yet they cause serious tooth damage. These drinks have added sugar, with phosphoric and citric acids that wear away tooth enamel.

Acohol and many medicines cause your mouth to dry out which can be curbed through fluoride rinses.

Candy and sweets are extremely sugary, which is not only bad for your throat due to the sugar, but also the enemy of teeth. They stick to the enamel and if not cleaned regularly, your teeth will wear off.
