Bor, Chepkorir top in Nandi cross country championships

Emmanuel Bor and Immaculate Chepkorir won the Nandi County Cross Country Championships at Kapsabet Show Grounds yesterday. 

Bor, who used the contest to prepare for a 10km road race in Thailand on Sunday, led Solomon Boit in the eight kilometre race before stepping up the pace in the final lap to win in 24:49.1. 

Iten-based Boit settled for second place in 24:55.7 while Sila Kiptoo sealed the podium places in 25:07.2.

“I was using the race to test my form ahead of a 10km race in Thailand next week,” said Bor. 

Immaculate Chepkorir won the women’s 8km in 28:47.02. Brenda Jepleting returned second in 29:04.04 while Roselinda Chepketer came third in 29:18.01.

Immaculate Chemutai obliterated a strong line up to win the 6km women race. 

Chemutai, a Form Three Student at Cheptonon Secondary School, timed 22:35.07 beating her close challenger Christine Cherono, a Form Three Student at Ndurio Secondary School. Cherono clocked 22:42.04 ahead of Celestine Chepkosgei who stopped the timer in 22:49.06. 

Fireworks meted out in men's 8km race where Charles Rotich, a Form One Student at Koiban Secondary School, won in 25:07.07. 

Vincent Chepchumba, a Form Three Student at Kosirai Secondary School came second in 25:12.02 ahead of Johnson Cheruiyot (25:45.09). 

AK Central Rift secretary Kennedy Tanui, who is also Nandi County Sports Chief Officer, asked athletes to adhere to anti-doping regulations especially on updating whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Vincent Odhiambo and Brandy Adhiambo won the Siaya County Cross country Championships.

Odhiambo from Wagwer clocked 28 minutes and 20 seconds to win men's 8km race at Wagai Primary School in Gem, Siaya. 

Victor Otieno and John Bosco from Obambo came second and third after timing 29:40.30 and 30:04.50 respectively.

In women's category, Adhiambo from Siaya clocked 25:00:50 to win 6km race ahead of Deborah Auma from Malanga and Jane Aoko from Sirembe who timed 26:12:90 and 26:59:10.

"It was a good race today despite the high temperatures and I will build on this victory to win the regionals. My target is to improve on my time," Adhiambo said.

Nyanza North Athletic Kenya chairman Joseph Ochieng asked local fans to turn out in large numbers at the Kisumu County Cross country championship today. "Siaya turn out was not good but we urge more fans to attend the Kisumu meet," he said.
