Court orders arrest of Environment PS Ibrahim Mohammed

The Employment and Labour Relations Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Environment and Forestry Principal Secretary Ibrahim Mohammedb (pictured).

Justice Monica Mbaru yesterday issued the warrant after Dr Mohammed failed to obey a court order issued on July 8, 2019 that required him to reinstate one Francis Waweru to work.

Mr Waweru, a civil servant in the forestry department, had sued the state for unlawful dismissal.

Felling trees

Waweru, who was employed in 1987, had been interdicted in May 2011 through a letter from the Director of Kenya Forest Service.

It was alleged that he was involved in illegal felling of trees among other charges. He sued the PS in 2016 claiming unfair and un-procedural dismissal and wrongful withholding of his salary.

Waweru allegedly had been issued with a letter requiring him to explain why he felled and converted 50 cedar trees to posts, trees that were supposed to be under his care.

In March 17, 2017 the court found Waweru's dismissal unfair and ordered for his reinstatement without loss of benefits. The reinstatement was to be effected within 45 days from the judgement date.
