Mob kills two men in night attacks

The attackers are said to have fled into Lake Victoria using a motorboat.

Two men have been killed in attacks that are suspected to be linked to the death of a health worker.

George Owino Kodada, a 40-year-old teacher at Oindo Primary School, was killed in Kogol village on Tuesday at about 1.30am. His death followed the killing of Bernard Otieno, a 36-year-old businessman, at Kakelo village.

The attackers set fire to Kodada's house but him and his wife, Elizabeth Auma, broke a window and removed their six children to safety. Kodada tried to flee but was pursued, caught and beaten to death.

Auma told The Standard that the attackers were focused only on her husband.

At Otieno’s home, the mob ejected him from the house and beat him up as they torched his property. They threw him into the fire and he got burnt beyond recognition.

Rabuor assistant chief Maurice Akumu said the deaths appeared to be retaliatory attacks for the death of a man one week ago.

“We are getting information that the two were accused of murdering the health worker. However, it is wrong for residents to take the law into their hands. They should have reported the matter to the relevant authorities for punitive legal action,” said Mr Akumu.
