Three men were yesterday charged with kidnapping a police officer.

Reuben Ochieng', Dennis Omondi and Jared Onyango, who appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, are said to have committed the offence on Tuesday.

They are accused of kidnapping Police Constable Robert Nyange at Railways matatu terminus in Nairobi.

The trio faced a second count of assaulting the officer by beating him up and causing him actual bodily harm.

They denied the charges and were released on a bond of Sh300,000 or a cash bail of Sh200,000 each. The case will be heard March 5.

The suspects are said to have attacked the officer when he tried to arrest them.

According to the charge sheet, the officer stopped the suspects, who defied and jumped into a car. One of the suspects pulled the officer into the car before they sped off.

The officer was treated at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Lawyer Ilham Said had pleaded with the court to grant his clients favourable bond terms.

Andayi ordered that Onyango, said to have been injured in the incident, be taken to hospital.
