Murder: Man, 38, on the run as police find wife's body

Police from Malaba police station have appealed to members of the public to share with them whereabouts of a 38-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife on Wednesday and disappeared.

The body of the 36-year-old was recovered by the police lying in a pool of blood in a house in Kamuriai village, Teso North Constituency after breaking the door on Friday.

Police suspected that after killing his wife on Wednesday night by stabbing her several times on the stomach and chest, the man closed the door and went into hiding.

A neighbour, Beatrice Oteba said she heard the late screaming for help but she did not rush to the scene for fear of being attacked. “He had earlier warned us that nobody should ever interfere whenever he disciplined his wife and that is why we kept off,” said Ms Oteba.

Residents said the suspect was recently freed the after serving a three-year sentence for allegedly killing his brother in 2015.

Fidelis Omuse said around midnight on that fateful Wednesday everything went quite in that home. The following day Omuse did not see Hellen and her husband.

Out of curiosity neighbours visited the home and peeped through the window and saw Hellen’s body lying on the floor.

“We informed the area chief who then called police and broke the door; Hellen’s body was recovered but the husband was missing,” said Omuse.

Osajai Chief Wycliffe Ipiina said a manhunt for the suspect had been launched. He termed the incident unfortunate and urged couples to find better dispute resolution. “It is unfortunate the husband decided to take away his wife’s life. We shall pursue him and arraign him in court to face the law,” said Ipiina.
