Third Way Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has called for the immediate resignation and prosecution of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials for mismanagement of August 8 presidential election.

Aukot wants IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba charged for conducting a sham election adding that they were culpable of irregularities and can therefore not supervise another election.

Others he wants probed for the annulled election include ICT Director James Muhati, Director of elections Immaculate Kasait and the legal affairs Director Praxidice Tororei for failing to curb electoral malpractices in their various capacities.

Aukots' sentiments come amid calls made by National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga agitating for the disbandment of the electoral agency ahead of the repeat election.

He maintained that he was ready for the re-run, adding that despite allegations about the links between the printer, Dubai's Al Ghurair Printing & Publishing, and President Uhuru Kenyatta he had no preferred printer as so long as the electoral process was conducted within the law.

"From the outcome of the petition, the Chairman should have immediately vacated office. As a party, we demand that Chebukati resigns immediately and allow the rest of the commissioners to conduct the repeat election. We will ensure they are charged as accused," said Aukot.

On Friday the Supreme Court nullified the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto after finding that the election was not conducted on the dictates of the constitution.

The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice David Maraga ordered for a fresh presidential election within 60 days.

The electoral agency is expected to announce the date of the re-election.

Attacking the Judiciary

Aukot castigated the head of state for attacking the Judiciary in what he said “confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has no regard for independent institutions.”

"It is impossible for three or for people to invalidate the will of the people who voted. We have, however, respected the decision in as much we do not agree with it. We respected it but I can assure you we shall revisit," said a seemingly infuriated Uhuru on Saturday.

The President intimated that although he is a peaceful person, he is not a Bishop, neither is he a coward.

"We are law abiding people and want peace but that should not be misconstrued to mean we are fools or cowards. To say that I am peaceful doesn't mean that I am a Bishop," he exclaimed.

On school fires, the Third Alliance Party leader accused the government of its inability to address issues with finality hence a repeat of similar scenarios seen last year.
