Man stabs pregnant wife 9 times to 'kill a lie'

A man stabbed his pregnant wife to death yesterday before handing himself over to police.

The man from Kikopey in Gilgil, who is said to have stabbed the screaming woman nine times, later said he did not kill his wife but only the "lie she was living".

"My wife has been a living lie and today I decided to kill the lie so that we could live peacefully," said the suspect identified as Robert Nderitu Ndung'u.

In an interview, the 30-year-old suspect, who appeared unshaken, said he committed the act after he was ordered to do so by "unknown powers".

Gilgil OCPD Sarah Koki said the suspect would be taken for mental health tests.

She said police were called by neighbours but by the time they arrived, the woman was dead.

"The suspect handed himself to the officers and will be charged with murder," she said by phone.

"The woman's body has been taken to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary."

Meanwhile, a man was found dead inside his girlfriend's house at Longonot trading centre in Naivasha.

Police found a rope tied to his neck but ruled out suicide. They suspect he was killed in a love triangle.

According to Abel Kimani, a neighbour, the man had been living with the woman for some time.

"Unknown to him, the woman was also seeing another man and there was a quarrel when the two met before the body was found in the morning," he said.

A police source said it appeared the man was killed using a blunt object before the rope was placed around his neck.

"We suspect that the killers tried to tamper with the scene and we are looking for the woman in connection with the incident," said the source.
