Nairobi, Kenya: Former KANU cabinet minister Ndolo Ayah died on Wednesday aged 84 at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi. He leaves behind a widow and one son.

President Uhuru Kenyatta led other leaders in mourning the former Cabinet Minister describing him as a dedicated leader who served the country diligently as a legislator and as a minister.

Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o  sent his condolences to the family of the late Cabinet Minister saying that Wilson Ndolo Ayah was a great family friend and a colleague in politics. He went ahead to describe him as a witty and self assured politician who never lacked the courage to speak his mind.

The Kisumu Senator added: “Wilson was my father's pupil. He literally stood tall as a leader and bowed out gracefully from public life when he decided to do so. We shall miss Apuot as we fondly called him.”

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi in his message stated that he has learnt of Ayah’s death with great sorrow.

‘As a colleague, Ayah was very meticulous about government affairs by never letting a detail escape him.  The legacy he leaves behind for leaders to emulate is that he wasn’t fastidious about things of the good life probably because of his training as rural sociologist.’ Said Mudavadi

Wilson Ndolo Ayah served in former President Daniel Arap Moi’s government as Cabinet Minister for Foreign Affairs and at one time he was also the Minister for Research, Science and Technology.

When he retired from active politics he served as the first chairman of Safaricom.
