Why parents regret educating the boy child

Kenya: Educating children especially the boy child is considered more than educating a girl child owing to the fact that one day she will be married elsewhere and benefit the family where she will be married to.  However, this may not be a fact since some parents’ regret why they educated their sons. Being born and raised up in Kisii County, I have seen, heard and even experienced scenarios where sons after being educated dessert their families in villages in abject poverty while they enjoy life in towns with their wives.

Take for instance the case of Jane Kagu, 78, a resident in Bosongo Village in Kisii County. Her distressed face can reveal the agony and the pain her heart is experiencing. After toiling hard to educate her son, he disappeared to Nairobi with his wife and only resurfaces at home in case there is a funeral or a wedding.
