Two men could serve life in prison if found guilty of gang-raping a woman for more than three hours.
The court heard that Kenneth Macharia and John Njue reportedly forced themselves on a 23-year-old woman on January 13 behind a bush along railways land near Muthurwa Market.
The prosecution said Kenneth Macharia had faced a similar charge not long ago, but was acquitted, and argued that the accused had introduced his accomplice to the crime.
Police said the woman had just closed her business around 9pm and was heading home when the accused set on her and demanded she give them money.
They allegedly took her to a deserted area along the railway line where they raped her in turns after she failed to produce the money.
The court heard that once they were done, they sold her to another man for sex.
“One of the men went way and after some minutes returned with another man. He then told him to pay Sh500 so that he could have sex with me. I saw him pay the accused,” she told police.
She said that after making the payment, the man allegedly pulled her to a nearby bush and raped her but she managed to escape when the assailant fell asleep.
The accused were released on Sh200,000 bond each.
The hearing of the case is set to begin on May 6.
