Kalonzo Musyoka behind Machakos and Makueni wrangles, MPs say

Two legislators now claim Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka is behind the on-going political wrangles in Machakos and Makueni counties.

Speaking separately to The Standard, Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka and his Yatta counterpart Francis Mwangangi said Kalonzo should "stop shedding crocodile tears over the leadership wrangles in Machakos and Makueni counties" as he is the chief architect of the twin crises.

"The leadership wrangles in Makueni were sanctioned by Wiper. Elected MPs and the senator went for a retreat in Mombasa where the scheme to impeach Governor Kivutha Kibwana was hatched," charged Dr Munyaka.

He warned that the same forces have now shifted their machinations to Machakos County where they are targeting Governor Alfred Mutua through a movement dubbed "Okoa County" under the command of Senator Johnstone Muthama.

Munyaka, who has launched a parallel movement dubbed "Operation Linda Counties" which he says will restore political order in Ukambani, urged the youthful leaders across the three counties to join forces and "slay the dragon of old fashioned and retrogressive politics."

"I am calling upon all youthful leaders including professionals and business people to rise up and add vigour to this noble movement to transform the political leadership of this region," he added.

Unity meeting

His sentiments were echoed by Mwangangi, who also faulted Kalonzo's recent move to host leaders at his Yatta home to forge unity ahead of the 2017 General Election. Mwangangi, who skipped the function, said "nothing new can come from the former VP."

"There was no reason for me to attend the function as it was aimed at boosting the failing career of a politician, who, in my opinion, is supposed to retire," said the Yatta legislator.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule dismissed the leaders' claims, saying they should stop dragging his name into local politics. He said contrary to the claims, Kalonzo has been going out of his way to reconcile the warring parties in both counties.
