Migori mum wants justice for daughter who was raped

child defilement in migori
Mother wants justice for defiled child

A young girl is nursing serious injuries after allegedly being defiled by man at Oruba estate, Migori County.

According to Olga Ouma (not real name), the child’s mother and a hawker in Migori town, she noticed her daughter walking and sitting with difficulty, but she could not get the child to tell her what was wrong.

However, the girl later reportedly confided in her uncle that their neighbour, one Elly Owino or Baba Lady, lured her with a sweet into his house. The man reportedly locked her in his house and defiled her on January 14.

She reportedly told the uncle that, “He put his hand over my mouth and threatened me with a knife if I screamed or told anybody.”

The girl’s parents took her to Migori District Hospital where a doctor confirmed that she was not only defiled, but also infected with an STI. According to Olga, her daughter was only given painkillers.

The doctor at Migori District hospital who declined to give his name confirmed that indeed he attended to the minor who had been brought by the parents on January 18. He confirmed that her hymen was broken. He says although there were no visible bruises, there was a smelly discharge oozing from the victim’s private parts.

“The victim was brought to the hospital four days after the incident. Normally in such cases, the victim should be taken to hospital within 72hours. Because the girl was brought in late, I could not administer anti HIV treatment on her thus I gave her antibiotics for the STI,” he said.

The case was reported at Oruba AP post on January 18 under OB number-OB36/18/1/2015.

The mother also claims the infection is worsening by the day and that the Class One pupil still struggles to walk. She claims they can only afford painkillers like Panadol.

Even though a warrant of arrest has been issued, the suspect is still at large. Olga is now demanding for justice and is asking for assistance from relevant authorities. Her daughter is also in need of prompt medical assistance which they can’t afford. The girl has not resumed school since her injuries are yet to heal.
