Kapenguria MP asks KDF boss Julius Karangi to resign over insecurity in the country

Baringo, Kenya: Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has challenged the Chief of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Major General Julius Karangi to resign over increased wave of insecurity in the country.

He said Karangi should follow suit of his colleague and Police boss David Kimaiyo and former Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku who exited soon after the massacre of at least 36 Kenyans by Al shabaab militants in Garissa last week.

Moroto who is also a member of the parliamentary team on security said Karangi's resignation would pave way for a more competent person.

He decried that the spate of killings of innocent Kenyans by the Al shabaab terror group was worrying and needed to be addressed soberly.

Moroto condemned KDF for torture and arson attacks on residents of Chelimongot, about 100 kiliometers from Kapedo where the military has launched an offensive against bandits.

"We said if Kimaiyo and Lenku were shown the door and they came from minority communities, even Karangi should be fired as his officers are acting in violation of law. This is not a military state," added Moroto.

Area Governor Simon Kachapin commended the resignation of Lenku and Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo for bowing down and leaving the mantle for competent persons.

He observed that governors in the country were better placed to handle security matters as they interact with people at the grassroots.

Kachapin called on the national government to consider involving governors on security matters in order to improve on the deteriorating security situation.

Senator John Lonyangapuo observed that security had been restored and lured investors to the region citing that there were great resources.
