Lands official grilled over Karen land

Chief Land Registrar Sarah Nguhi Mwenda was Monday grilled by anti-graft detectives over the controversial Sh8 billion Karen land.

Ms Mwenda was picked up from her office at the Ministry of Lands and taken to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters at Integrity House for questioning.

EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro said Mwenda had been adversely mentioned in the land deal.

"We will inform you on the way forward when investigations are complete," said Amaro.

The registrar was still recording her statement by the time of going to Press.

EACC is investigating the saga. The National Land Commission (NLC) has also started investigations into the land.

NLC has summoned those claiming ownership of the land to appear before it in two weeks to justify the documents they have.

The property is at the centre of a court tussle pitting businessman Horatius Da Gama Rose and former National Social Security Fund Managing Trustee Jos Konzolo. A widow of former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner John Mburu has also resurfaced to claim ownership.
