Taxi driver slashed to death near Moi airport

A taxi driver was killed by unknown assailants about 100 metres from the Moi International Airport Monday.

Reports indicate the victim was attacked by three men a few metres from a police roadblock.

Police claimed they were pursuing two of the suspects after a crowd lynched a third one believed to have participated in the killing.

The unnamed man was captured by the public who had seen the attackers remove the driver from his car.

The slain driver, who police identified only as Hassan, is said to have parked his cab near the airport between 9.30am and 10am when two of the assailants descended on him with machetes, slashing him several times.

According to Changamwe OCPD Kinuthia Muthee, the attackers were in a Toyota Probox, which they used to escape.

Mr Muthee said the police were yet to arrest anyone but were looking for the suspects whose motive they were yet to establish as nothing was stolen from the deceased man or the cab.
