A Kisumu man who splashed Sh1.2 million on his son’s birthday party has been kicked out of his apartment over Sh118,000 rent arrears.

Douglas Otieno, commonly known as Daggy Owila, 29, cannot be traced by his landlord who has since confiscated his seven-seater sofa set, two tables and numerous documents.

The landlord has since leased the house to another tenant even as he pursues Daggy whom he said has not paid rent since July.

According to the apartment agent Dan Aguko, Daggy had rented the business apartment located at Polyview Estate for his office use and was expected to pay Sh35,000 every month.

Aguko said he received Sh22, 000 from Daggy for the month of July, with a pledge of paying the balance before end of the month.

This, according to Aguko, has turned into empty promises. Worse, his attempts to meet the tenant have failed.

“The seats and documents we are holding cannot be converted to cash to recover the amount of money he owes us; hence we are still pursuing him to pay the money. Sometimes he never picks calls and at times he receives and gives promises. The latest promise is end of this month, so we are waiting for the deadline,” said Aguko.

The agent, however, said he repossessed the house last week after seeing no signs of the man paying the accumulating money.

“People come to inquire if we have space and we tell them no. We have now decided to lease the house as this is business and we cannot leave a house vacanyt yet the tenant is not honouring the agreement,” he said.

Last month Daggy was alive on social media when he allegedly held a three-day lavish birthday party for his son Rayan Tyron and bragged over his fortunes.

It is reported that Daggy only invited the ‘who is who’ of Kisumu at the party held at Royal City Hote.

A local daily reported him saying he was CEO of his own company and was at the helm of determining his own salary; hence the birthday budget was not a problem.

He was also reported to be running a car hire and public transport business which includes a fleet of tuktuks and motorcycles.

The polyview apartment agent said some of his employees took away computers and other valuables from the office, only leaving chairs, documents and two tables.

“We only discovered that the equipment were missing when Daggy came with police, and since only the tables and chairs were there, I took them into our store. I hope he will pay us our money so that we release the furniture,” said Aguko.

Daggy did not pick calls nor respond to text messages sent to him regarding the allegations.
