Cricket former national cricket captain

Obuya Cricket Academy will make make history this weekend when they play their fisrt NPCA league match against Stray Lions C team at the Aga Khan Sports Club.

Jimmy Kamande (top) will lead Stray Lions. The side formed by the Obuya cricket brothers, who have been household names in the national team, will not only be the first indigenous team formed by international players to join the local league but also the first Academy side  to take the bold step.

Kennedy Obuya, a former national team wicketkeeper who is the technical director of the Academy, said the move was long overdue.

“We started this Academy eight years ago to give back to the society what made us who we are over the years.  The boys we started out with have matured into adults, some have left us to join other clubs because we could not offer them the league.

“With this move, so many of them have even applied to come back and play for the Academy where they cut their teeth in the beautiful game of cricket,” said Kennedy.

He said the Academy hopes to help  the team prepare for the league with players recruited from their new development centres in Homa Bay and Vihiga. The Academy runs other centres in Kibera and Githurai, Nairobi.
