Nyanza Region have selected their best players in badminton, lawn tennis and table tennis ahead of the national games.

The 36 - 18 boys and 18 girls - will fly the region’s flag during this year’s secondary schools national Term Two B Games set for next week in Nyeri.

In boys’ badminton, siblings Trabez Kara and Aftan of Jalaram will battle in the doubles, while Aman Patel (Kisumu Academy), Vincent Otieno (Rang'ala), Ali Chacha (St Mary’s Yala) and Kevin Muhongo of Jera Mixed will compete in the singles.

Krisha Ghia of Kisumu Senior, Violet Chacha of Nyabururu, Linda Achieng of Nyatambe, and Kereri’s Naomi Oruta will contest in girls’ singles.

Amabuko’s Patricia Ondari and Diana Morori will contest in the doubles.

In lawn tennis, Maranda School will be represented by three players: Cyprian Kibet and David Karanja (doubles) as well as Nobel Mungu in the boys’ category.

Allan Mukabane (Nyabondo), Ricky Omondi (Kisumu Boys), and Bernard Odera of St Joseph’s Rapogi complete the boys’ team.

The girls’ team has Kereri’s trio of Tamara Kwamboka, Myra Kemunto, and Jewel Abuti, while Mary Gorrety (Kudho), Clara Vinner (Kanga), and Brenda Anyango of Kisumu Girls also made the team.

Kisumu Senior’s dominance in racquet games seems to have faded as they only got three slots in table tennis. The trio of Viral Patel and Bilal Arshad (boys) and Rashni Gudka (girls) will do duty for the school.

Daniel Omwenga (Amabuko), Jason Omwoyo (Moi Gesusu), and Duncan Odhiambo and David Maena of St Peter’s Kotieno form the boys’ team. Jera Girls will be represented by Lucy Adhiambo, Lilian Anyango, and Vivian Adhiambo.

The other two players in the contest are Damaris Makori of Kegati and Maximilla Kemunto of Nyamagwa. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
