A presidential candidate in the August 8 General Election has launched a scathing attack on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials over a repeat presidential election update.

Thirdway Alliance leader Dr Ekuru Aukot launched the attack after IEBC pointed out in their statement that only President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga will be on the ballot.

Aukot also noted that he will challenge IEBC’s decision in court.

According to the electoral commission, the repeat exercise will be carried out on October 17, 2017.

The vocal Aukot on Sunday called for the resignation and prosecution of the electoral officials implicated in the mismanagement of the presidential election.

Aukot stressed that IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba must be charged with conducting a sham election.

He claimed they were culpable for the irregularities and can, therefore, not supervise a repeat election.

"From the outcome of the petition, the chairman should have immediately vacated office. As a party, we demand that he resign and allow the rest of the commissioners to conduct the repeat election," he insisted.
