President Uhuru rekindles post-election memories forcing Raila to speak about it

President Uhuru Kenyatta on during his visit to Nyamira county rekindled memories of the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

Addressing the residents on Wednesday the president said that during the 2013 General Election they had a rough time.

According to him, his presidential bid was marred with a lot of challenges owing to the fact that he and his deputy were facing criminal charges at the ICC.

He said that had a negative implication on them because some of the people viewed them as suspects and not aspirants.

Uhuru added that through it all, they rose against all odds to ascend to power. He further said that now that he is not having any obstacle on his way he is better placed to be re-elected

On the other hand, he allegedly accused the opposition leader Raila Odinga of playing a central role in the 2007/2008 post-election violence and not steering this county to greater heights when he was in a leader.

Raila denied the allegations saying that the President was not honest to Kenyan in his utterances .

The opposition leader added that it was not a time to politicise the post elections violence when a good number of people from the county the President was addressing have not been compensated.

“I remind the president that the Gusii land he is visiting is littered with post-election violence victims who are yet to be compensated,” said Raila

He further said that the Gusii people need not, to be told who has stagnated this country neither do they need to be told about who is corrupt because they know it.

“The Gusii people need no lecture on who initiated the infrastructural transformation in their county. Neither do they need to be told who the high priest of corruption in the country is. They are only too aware,” Raila added.

Some Kenyans feel that the President was rekindling the post-election violence memories so that he can ride on them to get sympathy votes.
