Police kills four gangsters after raid at family home in Murang'a County

Police shot dead a four-man gang and recovered a gun and crude weapons moments after they had robbed a family in Kabati Market in Murang'a county.

The gang robbed the family of Sh27,000, mobile phones and other valuables before feasting on the family dinner as the terrified family watched.

Police said they responded to a distress call from Lydia Wanjiru Murigi after she witnessed a struggle outside her gate involving her husband Amos Murigi and the assailants.

The gang overpowered Murigi and pushed him into the house where the family was tried with ropes and beaten as the gang ransacked valuables and loaded them into sacks during the 10 pm incident before settling to eat food in the kitchen.

Murang'a county police commander Naomi Ichami said the gang accosted Murigi at his gate as he was coming home for the night.

"One of the suspects managed to flee when our officers from the nearby Kabati Police Station arrived," said Ichami.
Murigi said the gang had waited for him at the gate before they forced him into his house and announced their intentions to rob the family clean.

"I had just arrived home but at the gate I was accosted by gang who forced me into the house and started subjecting me to beatings demanding for money. The police arrived in the compound and shot dead some of the assailants as they tried to escape," said Murigi.

Murigi is the immediate former Executive Secretary of the Maragua branch of the Kenya National Union of Teachers.
