Waiguru drags Ruto ‘brother’ into NYS scam

Former Devolution Cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru

Nairobi, Kenya: Anne Waiguru has implicated Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and a man identified as a brother of the Deputy President in the NYS scandal.

Mr Rotich and Luke Kimutai Samoei, said to be William Ruto’s brother, are named in a letter by former National Youth Service Senior Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe. The letter was part of court documents filed by the embattled former CS on Tuesday.

Ms Waiguru’s affidavit in response to Josephine Kabura’s, a key suspect in the NYS scam, details coercion, intimidation and blackmail involving senior Jubilee figures, who yesterday alleged a scheme to divide the ruling coalition by portraying the URP wing as corrupt. National Assembly

Majority Leader Aden Duale and Senate Deputy Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen yesterday denied any wrong doing and accused Waiguru of dividing Jubilee.

Mr Duale, who was named in the explosive affidavit as having told Mr Harakhe that he needed political support as it was the URP wing that was being fought, asked Waiguru to carry her own cross.

“The Jubilee coalition under President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto is very solid. Waiguru is a small person. We gave her a job, she was involved in malpractices, and we sacked her. She is no longer a member of our coalition. She has no moral ground to speak on behalf of Jubilee,” said Duale at Parliament Buildings.

And separately, Mr Murkomen, who is said to have attempted to interfere with the NYS probe by intimidating investigating officers and demanding the fast-tracking of the illegal payments, too, said he had committed no crime.

“Anne is being misled that one side of the coalition is working against her,” said Murkomen.

The Elgeyo Marakwet senator disclosed that his only link to NYS was to offer legal advice services to Ben Gethi, one of the people named as a prime suspect in the scandal.

“At the material time stated in the affidavit, Mr Gethi approached the law firm of Sing’oei, Murkomen and Sigei Advocates for representation at the formative stages of NYS investigations and in due course, he moved to other law firms,” said the senator.

They spoke as three URP MPs — Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Bernard Bett (Bomet East) — asked them to leave office to clear themselves from the damning claims.

The prime suspect in the scandal Josephine Kabura on Tuesdays handed the anti-graft commission a copy of her affidavit and said that it should serve as her statement.
