Manchester United Fans were right to boo me, admits Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal admitted fans were right to boo his Manchester United flops after they slumped to defeat against Southampton.

Charlie Austin climbed off the bench to fire the Saints to victory at Old Trafford as the Red Devils crashed to their first loss in five outings.

Disgruntled supporters made their feeling clear at the final whistle, but Van Gaal has urged the boo-boys to get behind his side.

He told the BBC: "They are right [to boo], I cannot deny that. I have seen the match also. In better or for worse we have to stick together.

“We are working very hard but we have a lot of injuries that you cannot change."

Van Gaal admits his gamble to throw caution to the wind backfired as the Saints snatched the points thanks to Austin's late header.

"I wanted to win this game and that’s why I changed Cameron Borthwick-Jackson for Adnan Januzaj," added the Dutchman.

"I had a feeling they could score only from a set-play. Our defence in set-plays was weaker because I changed Fellaini and had to change Darmian. Every change was a weakness in defence.

"That is a risk you take, it was a poor game and we didn’t create so much and neither did our opponent."
