The country's security system is expected to receive a major boast in a couple of months as 4,000 Administration Police (AP) officers are set to join it. Majority of the new recruits will be posted to areas affected by cattle rustling, and along porous border points to deal with illegal immigrants.

This comes after 2,000 AP recruits graduated in a ground-manoeuvre operation on the vast Kedong ranch in Naivasha.

During the colorful ceremony graced by senior Government officers, the recruits showed their prowess in fighting criminals.

Addressing the Press after the event, Deputy Inspector General of Police Samuel Arachi said that the operation was meant to harden and train the recruits in field operations.

Mr Arachi who is in charge of the AP said that 2,280 recruits had graduated, and a further 1,620 are starting training.

Victor Okioma, the secretary of national administration in the Ministry of Internal Security, said the Government had invested heavily in recruit training and equipment. Arachi added that they are well prepared for the Pope's visit, and have increased patrols, especially in the city.
