Naivasha, Kenya: Two people perished Tuesday and five others were left fighting for their lives following a grisly road accident along the Mai Mahiu-Narok road.

The accident near Pipeline centre, about 10kms from Mai Mahiu town involved a lorry ferrying sand and a Probox in which seven family members were travelling.

A five-year-old boy died on the spot, as the other injured relatives were rushed to various hospitals following the midday accident at the notorious black spot. One person succumbed to injuries on arrival.

According to a witness Geoffrey Wakomu, the lorry was overtaking a bus heading to Mai Mahiu when it rammed into an oncoming Probox vehicle.

“The minor died on the spot while six people including the driver of the personal car were seriously injured,” he said.

A senior police officer said that the driver of the lorry fled from the scene soon after the accident.

The accident led to a major traffic snarl up along the busy road as police and members of the public moved in to assist those injured.
