Martin Mbugua, whose wife Mercy Njeri died in a head-on collision

The family of Martin Mbugua, whose wife Mercy Njeri died in a head-on collision with a car that some have associated with Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a of the Neno Evangelism Centre now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta’s intervention in the matter.

They want the true identity of the person who was on the driver’s seat of the other vehicle to be revealed.

There is still a mystery over the real owner of the red Range Rover and the person who was in the driving seat when the July 26 fatal road accident occurred. Following the crash and a burst of posts on social media linking Ng’ang’a to the car, Inspector General Joseph Boinnet issued a statement saying the vehicle belonged to a car hire and sale company and was on a test drive in Naivasha. But police officers who spoke to The Nairobian quietly wondered why Kenya’s senior-most  police officer had found it necessary to wade into matters related to a road accident. They felt that such matters should be felt the local traffic base commander.

Simon Kuria was charged before Senior Principal Magistrate Godfrey Odour for causing death by dangerous driving. He did not plead to the charges.

Peter Ndungu, Martin Mbugua’s father is now appealing to President Uhuru to help the family unravel what really happened on the fateful evening he lost his daughter-in-law.

Mbugua, who is currently recuperating at home after his release from hospital narrated how they woke up on the fateful Sunday and prepared to leave for church service in Umoja estate, Nairobi. That evening after lunch, they decided to visit their parents for a meal in Limuru.

They left Nairobi at around 4.30pm and headed for Limuru via Westlands and were approaching Manguo near Limuru town when the fatal crash occurred.

A still shocked Mbugua, who still had visible facial injuries, told The Nairobian that following the accident, he found himself in hospital. “I saw the Range Rover swaying dangerously and at high speed towards my direction. I hooted, but that did not help because the vehicle crashed into ours a few seconds later,” said Mbugua.
