Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi wants an overhaul of the electoral system in Kenya to ensure every vote counts through proportional representation of youth and women.

The Amani leader was speaking to Rt. Hon. the Lord Steel of Aikwood, former MP and Liberal Democratic Party leader at the Houses of Parliament in London yesterday when he shared ideas on British and Kenya's electoral systems.

Mudavadi informed Lord steel that ANC was championing for the adoption of a propositional representation system to achieve “equality of the vote”.

Mudavadi who was accompanied by Kenyan High Commission Ambassador Lazarus Amayo shared the ANC constitution and outlined the process of ANC structures, emphasizing that internal party democracy was key to good governance in Kenya.

Lord Steel decried the emerging ethnic voting patterns in Kenya.

Lord Steel who was a student at Nairobi School at the time known as the Prince of Wales said democracy in Kenya needs safeguarding against ethnicity.

“ANC should adopt ‘anti-establishment’ stance like Britain's Liberal Democrats or the Scottish National Party to challenge and provide an alternative for the electorate in Kenya”, he said.

“I am a victim of ethnic politics in Kenya where I am seen as not being tribal enough,” said Mudavadi.

Meanwhile, the ANC party leader has condemned the culture of hooliganism that is spreading to the precincts of the courts, referring to the harassment of Senator Bonny Khalwale by ODM youth.

“It’s wrong to misuse youth to disrupt a court process. We are teaching youth to disobey the law in the long run. Soon, it will be a fee for all anarchy,” he said.
