Kenya: Polytechnics to be revamped

Governor James Ongwae has said plans are underway to revive youth polytechnics across the county and tap wasted talent among youths.

Speaking while on a tour to inspect various projects in Kitutu Chache South sub-county, accompanied by area MP Richard Onyonka, the governor said he will regularly consult on developmental matters and asked locals to support the current leadership.

The governor said all facilities will be upgraded and equipped with necessary tools to enable them deliver the highest standards of technical training.

Crucial role

He said if well managed, youth polytechnics such as Nyaore and Nyamondo can play a crucial role in easing the school-to-work transition for many primary and secondary school leavers.

"My government is equipping polytechnics in all wards and tutors will be employed to help youths in these institutions," he said.

The governor said polytechnics provide avenues for school leavers to upgrade their skills and knowledge adding that Nyaore will be upgraded to become a center of excellence in the region.

"These institutions will help reduce youth unemployment and the resultant social problems," he said.
