Kenya: A CID officer was Wednesday night shot dead by hooded gunmen at old town area in Mombasa.

In Nairobi, Shauri Moyo OCS is fighting for his life in hospital after he was accosted and shot four times in his Ruai home.

The OCS was in his house when gunmen broke in and confronted him.

According to police, the gang cut the grill of a window and got into the house where a confrontation broke out.

“He heard a commotion in the house and when he went to check he was confronted with bullets. He is out of danger for now,” said an officer aware of the incident.

Officials said he is admitted in hospital in stable condition. The motive of the attack is yet to be established so far. The gang stormed out and ran away but a hunt on them is ongoing.

In Mombasa, officials said the CID officer attached to Kenya port Authority KPA was trailed and shot at close range by two gunmen wearing balaclavas who escaped without stealing anything from him.

He was shot three times in the abdomen and died upon arrival at Mombasa hospital.

Mombasa County commissioner Nelson Marwa confirmed the Wednesday night incident saying they are probing the murder.

The officer was identified as Mohammed Ali, a dedicated officer assigned at Old town port.

Police have now launched investigation and manhunt for the assailants suspected to be radical youths.

The killing comes in the wake of increased crime wave within Majengo and Old town estates in Mombasa.
