Kenyan gets 20 years in jail for sex assault

Siaya, Kenya: A magistrate court in Siaya County has sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old minor.

Bernard Omondi Odukado, 18, was accused of committing the act on August 8, 2013 at Randago sub-location in Alego, Siaya County.

In his ruling, Resident Magistrate Simon Kimani Mburu found Odukado guilty of the act, noting the complainant's narration was articulate and graphic.

He said the conclusion could not be overlooked, considering the nature and extent of injuries sustained during the defilement.

The court heard that on the material day, the complainant was going home from Malanga Dispensary where she had gone to seek medical attention. On her way back, the complainant met the accused person whom she said was from her village.

The accused held her by the hand and led her forcibly towards a house in a homestead where he drew a knife and threatened to kill her if she screamed.

In his own sworn statement, the accused refuted the allegations, saying he was a total stranger to the complainant and he had met her for first time in court.
