Governor Simon Kachapin tells donor agencies to rescind advisories

Governor Simon Kachapin has urged donor agencies to revoke advisories they issues to their staff to leave the county due to insecurity threats.

Mr Kachapin in particular asked the United States Agency for International Development (USAid) to reconsider a recent advisory to its officers to leave, an indication they would cease their operations in the region.

USAid had earlier warned that they would stop their operations in the area by relocating its staff due to insecurity.

He asserted that there was no cause for alarm citing that the much hyped insecurity calls were just exaggerations.

He appealed to investors and Non-Governmental Organisations to continue operating in the area noting that their presence is a boost to development.

RIGHT INFORMATION

"West Pokot is not Baringo, it has its own governor and other leaders and Kapedo should not be mistaken for West Pokot, it is in Baringo County. The media ought to feed the public with the right information and not mislead people," he said.

The governor pointed out that the Pokot abandoned cattle rustling some time back and investors have since been attracted to the region, and hence should not be scared with inaccurate reporting.

He lauded the Government's effort in beefing up security in the region and the NGOs for initiating peace fostering programmes, which have yielded fruits.

Kachapin challenged the national government to support the county in development of infrastructure and establishment of industries to create employment opportunities and attract investors.
