The much-waited elections of top posts of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) took place in Eldoret with the acting vice-president Robert Asembo, being confirmed to the position.

Fifty out of 78 delegates attended the stormy meeting that took place at Marriot Hotel overseen by FKF president Sam Nyamweya. The criteria for voting was those for or against the agenda set by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to determine the winners.

Asembo, Mohamed Omar and Simon Mugo, who were fronted by the NEC, were confirmed by 39 delegates,  while 15 voted for former KFF vice-chairman Twaha Mbarak. The three positions were left vacant after former holders - Sammy Sholei and Dan Shikanda - were handed six-year suspensions and Hussein Terry, former Coast NEC member, banned for life.

The main contest was, however, on the vice-president’s slot where Asembo and Twaha were contesting.

In an exercise, which lasted 30 minutes, the delegates unanimously approved Omar, who was absent and Mugo to represent Coast and Nairobi in the NEC. There was storm as two groups engaged in verbal war after the vote, with a some Coast and North Eastern officials protesting against the process, saying it was flawed and unconstitutional.

North Eastern branch secretary Said Dahir, attacked the FKF for what he termed as “dictating on the procedure of electing the officials.”

“There were no elections. Members were not given a chance to express how the process would be done. All that took place was imposing officials on us and we shall not accept it,” he said.
